TSA’s Building Blocks: FP2030 Accelerating Access to Postpartum and Post - Abortion Family Planning Workshop
The FP2030 Accelerating Access to Postpartum and Post-Abortion Family Planning (PPFP & PAFP) Workshop marked a pivotal initiative in advancing family planning services globally. Held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from October 31 to November 3, 2023, the workshop brought together 150 participants from 15 countries, including Pakistan, Kenya, Nepal, and India, to address barriers and devise actionable strategies for scaling PPFP and PAFP services.


Workshop Objectives
- Barrier Analysis and Solution Development:
- Review of country-specific data to identify key gaps in scaling postpartum and post-abortion family planning services.
- Knowledge Exchange:
- Facilitated South-to-South learning to share successes, challenges, and best practices.
- Strategic Prioritization:
- Helped countries define three key strategic priorities and actionable steps to accelerate rights-based family planning services.
- Evidence-Based Decision Making:
- Advanced data and measurement tools to guide policy formulation andprogram implementation.

Key Outcomes for Pakistan
- Policy Development:
- Formulated policy documents and operational plans for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and other regions.
- Advocated for task sharing and task shifting to improve service delivery in KP, Punjab, and Balochistan.
- Data Integration and Standardization:
- Incorporated four PPFP & PAFP indicators into the DHIS-2 system for robust data tracking.
- Fostered data sharing between the Departments of Health (DoH) andPopulation Welfare Departments (PWD) to improve functional integration.
- Introduced Performance Monitoring Analysis (PMA) tools across all provinces to standardize reporting and enhance decision-making.
- Quality Improvement Initiatives:
- Enhanced capacity development programs, focusing on counseling skills for mid-level healthcare providers.
- Introduced dedicated counselors at health facilities, including antenatal clinicsand postpartum wards, to ensure high-quality patient care.


Global Collaboration and Learning
Participants engaged in cross-country learning, with delegations from 15 nations, including
Pakistan, contributing to shared solutions for scaling family planning services
. The workshop
underscored the importance of collaborative frameworks in addressing common challenges
and driving sustainable progress.


Strategic Priorities Moving Forward
- Establish a Country Engagement Working Group to monitor the implementation of action points.
- Strengthen data integration efforts, ensuring seamless collaboration between provincial departments.
- Scale capacity-building initiatives to equip healthcare providers with the skills needed for rights-based family planning services.
