TSA’s Building Blocks: Project Review of BMGF Grantees

As part of its commitment to driving scalable health solutions,The Scaling-Up Accelerators(TSA) conducted a comprehensive Project Review of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) Grantees. This initiative aimed to strengthen the implementation and scalability of innovative family planning solutions in Pakistan by providing technical guidance, leveragingthe WHO/ExpandNet Framework, and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders.

Key Objectives of the Review

  1. Scaling Framework Orientation:
    • TSA introduced the BMGF grantees to the WHO/ExpandNet Scaling-UpFramework and theNine-Step Approachfor effective intervention scaling.
    • Delivered orientations tailored to building the grantees’capacity for planningand executing scalable health initiatives.
  2. Technical Feedback and Consultations:
    • TSA provided constructive reviews and technical recommendations for scalingplans of ongoing pilot studies, such as the DMPA-SC self-injection initiative in Sindh and Punjab.
    • Collaborated with grantees to refine their strategic approaches and improveimpact.
  3. Capacity Building:
    • Conducted capacity-building workshops involving prominent organizations,including Jhpiego and RIZ Consulting.
    • Encouraged participatory discussions and shared scaling methodologies toenable sustainable outcomes.

Major Activities and Outcomes

  1. Self-Injection Rollout Planning:
    • TSA participated in consultation meetings to develop and refine the DMPA-SC Self-Injection Rollout Plan, apioneering effort in improving familyplanning accessibility.
  2.  Engagement with Local and International Partners:
    • Grantees included organizations like Pathfinder International, IPAS,Population Council, and Thinkwell Global. These collaborations fostered arobust exchange of ideas and best practices.
  3. Orientation Workshops:
    • Conducted sessions for 15 participants across nine organizations to ensure alignment with the WHO/ExpandNet Framework.
    • Shared resource materials and practical applications for scaling family planning interventions.

TSA’s Impact in Scaling Family Planning Interventions

Through the BMGF Grantees Project Review, TSA has:

  • Strengthened the capacity of key health organizations to scale innovative family planning solutions.
